Slots

Slots Slots are entertaining no doubt about it and entice the gambler with a payout percentage that is well engineered to strike a good balance of payouts and being in with a chance for a big win Vs just spending without anything happening.

Slot machines are visually appealing too and have great audio effects. You can usually find them in pubs and casinos across the UK as they don’t take up much space and the customers now and again like to have a gamble. It is clear that a lot of design goes into each and every one of them.

Physical Slot Machines have rolls which spin then stop on one segment creating a result. Now having a line of reels you increase the possible combinations of where the reels line up. Sometimes these result combinations are pay lines- and you get a win depending on the line.

It is a myth that a slot will be more likely to pay out if it has not paid out for a while. But a statistician will tell you that it will be statistically more likely to if it has not paid out recently.

A slot machine will have a payout percentage associated with it like 87% for example. This means it averages out of every 100 dollars input it pays out 87. The house keeps the 13% lucky for the house in this case. This is just an average and there is nothing to say that you could put in 200 dollars and not get anything back. So be warned.

The great thing about many Vegas Slots is that as an amateur you can have a lot of fun gambling a small pot with small change all hours. So in this way the non gamblers can have some pretty safe fun.

Blackjack

Blackjack Blackjack is a game of cards that is essentially quick to pick up and enjoy. You can play for money in casinos or just at home for fun! Being a simple game it is particularly enjoyable for younger players and a way to get them moving away from say snap!

You might have heard of the game 21 (Vingt et Une in Europe) or Pontoon in the UK. These are 3 names for the same game.

The objective is to get Blackjack which is a score of 21 with a picture card and an ace. You get dealt by a dealer 2 cards face up the dealer deals his second face down. In the casino game you play against the dealer and a few players can play against the dealer simultaneously without affecting your game. You can also observe the min and max bet written at the table.

How to score and play out..

Cards 2-9 represent their numerical value. Just add them together normally.

An Ace is either 1 or 11 so you can choose how to add them. An Ace with an 8 can be 9 (1+8) or 19 (11+8) for example.

The dealer will pay out odds usually 3 to 2 for any lucky enough to get Blackjack (so long as the dealer also didn’t make Blackjack). Make sure you check the odds of a blackjack win as casinos are becoming more stingy these days.

If you got 2 picture cards you would have 20, 1 away from 21 which is your goal. This is generally a good number to stick on. But it’s your choice.

You can at this point double down and double your stake.

If your hand is low, you can ask to get HIT and the dealer issues you another card. You can continue this until you get either to 21 or beyond in which case you lose as you have BUST.

When you decide to settle or stick and all other players have played, the dealer will show his second card and if less than you, you win. If you have an equal score, the dealer wins.

If you get a pair of cards you can split the hand providing you put up the initial bet again on the new hand. Both hands must play out entirely independently.

UK

UK Gambling and gaming for money in the area that now is the UK can be traced back as far as writing itself. It is not until we get to the mid 19th century that we saw the first laws relaxed over games where skill was involved. Previously The Unlawful Games Act 1541 made all forms of gambling illegal.
Gambling houses or gaming clubs  the early form of Casinos could now be regulated and the sector grew despite tightening laws towards the latter 19th century. In these early forms the patronage was strictly regulated to members only.
Crockfords was the first Casino established in 1828 on Curzon street London. In this era you needed a celebrity to facilitate the opening! Curzons was fortunate enough to have the Duke Of Wellington’s help.

In 1960 private Casinos were allowed to exist. One of the most notable new casinos to then be opened was in Wales, the Casino Club Port Talbot. It’s layout accommodated a restaurant, bar, dance floor and a gaming room. Games such as Baccarat and Blackjack could be found. George Alfred James was the creator and he would go on to build more including the Kingsway Casino which was the first of a breed with style and opulence not seen before. It attracted celebs and top musical performances of the era.

USA

USA History

The history of places to gamble goes far as back as the British settlers in the late 1500s. Lotteries became a way to fund development even. In other colonies gambling was not allowed but tolerated. Back then ‘Gambling House’ was a better term for what would be a casino today. And the scale would be vastly different. New Orleans was one place where Gambling Houses were turning over good. With all good things there is resistance and this forced the early casinos outward onto the rivers such as the Mississippi. This would make control harder at a time when there was little technology to help it was very easy to have a floating casino. The game of poker was also rumoured to have developed during this time. 5 card cheats were hanged in 1835, it was the start of the end for the river boat casinos. Moreso because the Civil War started in 1861. Only in the last 30 years have riverboat casinos started to be seen again.

Meanwhile Gold had been found on the West Coast in San Francisco- settlers rushed in to capitalise. They found a lack of law and San Francisco overtook New Orleans as the biggest centre. Here the name was Saloon and Gambling was just a part of the entertainment on offer.

In 1931 Nevada became the first state to enable Gambling legally- though it had casinos as they were now called. The state has benefited enormously as it brought significant wealth to an area that would otherwise not be very attractive. Much of the revenue came from organized crime after prohibition stopped, the mob made a perfect fit and developed early Las Vegas.

Today we look to Las Vegas for top casinos and it has long since been cleaned up! Casinos are actually widespread across the USA now and the biggest are not in Nevada!

The Biggest and Best Casinos in The USA

Win Star World Casino (Biggest)

Located north of Dallas and south of Oklahoma is the Win Star. A huge casino now the biggest in the USA and owned and operated by the Chickasaw Nation a Native American tribe.

Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa (Best with an ocean view)

We did not yet mention Atlantic City! Any article on Gambling and Casinos in the USA would be remiss. Atlantic City has an oceanscape in front of it with a boardwalk trumping vegas on that count! Located here is the Borgata, not the biggest casino but very well rated and appreciated. It’s gambling scene is every bit as good as anywhere.
