Texas Hold’em poker is one of the most popular forms played of the genre Poker. We will introduce this version of the game for you so if ever there is a ‘game on’ you will have some idea of how it works.Betting.
The first 2 players to the left of the current dealer are forced to make blind bets. Firstly there is the small blind (half minimum steak) then the next player pays double that (the steak) for the big blind. They do not see their cards. The aim of this is to make sure every hand is worth playing. Being a disadvantaged position it is rotated along with the dealer role. So everyone gets a ‘share’ of the disadvantage.
To make your hand you will use your 2 private cards and the 5 of ‘The Board’ which get laid out in stages in the middle of the table.

This round takes place with just the 2 cards having been delt. No Board cards are yet out. The player after the big blind goes first here, big and small blind positions have played already. You call raise or fold. Calls stay in the hand betting the steak amount. You can raise the bet which forces the ante to increase for everyone then onwards.
One card from the top of the deck is ‘burned’ then the next 3 cards are placed into the board called the flop.
Second Round Betting
Checking is now an option for a player so long as a bet has not yet been placed. You stay in the hand and do not need to put down any money. The players decide what to do in turn to complete the 2nd betting round.

Third Round Betting happens as normal- now 4 cards are in ‘the board’.
The River card is then placed (after a burn) and a fourth final betting round ensues. Things are about to get very exciting as the showdown starts. The remaining players must show their cards (or fold) and the winner takes all.
Often players can win by other players folding out in early rounds. A game is never sure to go this far.
